Labor day has always been one of those holidays that is just another day for me, you know the marker on when to put your white pants and white shoes away in the attic. Jason however, has always loved Labor Day its the beginning of College football and also its the opening weekend of Dove season, Jason refers to this weekend as the "best time of year" i do love college football, and i do love fall but it is so short lived and i'm not a big fan of winter, so i don't quiet get the thrill he does. He loves to go to the Gentry farm dove hunt every year, he seriously longs for that call. ;) Well this year was no different from any others except he was taking BOTH of our boys with him, i may find i really like Labor day after this year and "long" for that call as well, if it means i can get a quiet house for an hour or 2. ;) However this year as the boys were getting ready to head to Gentry farm for the dove hunt, i got a text message from Jason sister Jennifer that their mom was taking their dad to the E.R. see his dad was suppose to go with them to the dove hunt as a matter of fact they had been hunting together the day before & his dad mentioned he was having some hip pain, but clearly since they were out hunting Jason was worried but not overly worried. Well his dad had sent him a message saying the he was going to "bow out" of the gentry farm hunt because his hip was really giving him trouble. So Jason went by earlier in the day to visit him and check on him, he said he was hobbling around, he had some blood work the previous week we were waiting to hear back from because they thought he may have Lyme's disease. I guess sometime between when Jason visited with him and that afternoon his hip just got worse and he couldn't stand the pain, nor could he walk on it, so he crawled to the car to have Brenda take him to the ER. that alone breaks my heart as i cant imagine him being in so much pain he actually crawled to the car. A few hours later, they had done x-rays and blood work that had all come back "normal" so they did a ct scan. After the ct scan we found out he had a fracture in his hip, which was so puzzling to all of us as to what could have caused that. They admitted him and said they would have a group of specialist together and they would be doing a bone scan and more x-rays Tuesday morning. We knew one of the specialist was going to be an oncologist which worried us, but we thought it was just a precaution. I remember Jason saying, well wouldn't we be worried if they didn't have an oncologist there. Fast forward to Tuesday afternoon the doctor who we had taken care of us in the ER, who also had prayed with us. He came to tell us the results of the scan. It wasn't what we were expecting to hear, he has multiple tumors on his neck, shoulder, spine, ribs and hip. and that that evening the oncologist would be coming to talk with us about the scan and the next steps. Talk about a sick feeling. Around 7:30 Tuesday evening there were probably 15 of us standing in Kurt's hospital room when the oncologist came in to talk with us. He ask Kurt a few questions told us what he had seen on the scan. He basically didn't mention anything else it could be except cancer, Jason asked how early he thought we may have caught it and he responded well cancer comes in 4 stages one being the earliest and i would say this is stage 4, he said it was very aggressive and really provided no hope for us at all. I have never in my life felt so sick and helpless as i did at that very instant. He told us they would biopsy the tumor on his hip the next morning. The family was all devastated to say the least. We came home, cried some more, prayed, cried and prayed some more. Jason and Bradly decided they would not go to work the next day but instead go to the hospital to be with their dad. Wednesday ended up being a pretty good day for everyone after the biopsy Kurt ended up coming home with a walker to help him get around with the hip fracture. Earlier that morning a precious man from our church came to visit and we all remember a few years ago him going through this same similar scenario, and us all praying so hard for him and his family as he fought for his life, however, he was able to beat the cancer! Praise God! Jason said he was such a blessing that Wednesday morning he came in prayed over Kurt and also told us that back when he received his original diagnosis it was the same it was in his bones and lungs, we were all as encouraged as you can be having gotten the news we had just received because Kyle was actually standing their talking to us and the cancer was gone. So that was a blessing to have him come. Wednesday evening 3 of the shepherds from our church came to pray over Kurt, they read several scriptures and prayed over him and anointed him. It was really a beautiful time together. The peace we all felt was amazing. The hope that had been brought to us over the past 24 hours was also unimaginable. After the shepherds left Jason looked over at me and says i really believe his is going to be healed, God is going to heal him, before he had even said that i had been thinking to myself the same thing i actually so badly wanted to tell Kurt to just stand up and see if he could walk. Friday we received the call from Williamson County hospital that they could find NO CANCER CELLS in Kurt biopsy!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!! they did say they wanted to do a 2nd biopsy because the tumor had a hemotoma around it and they wanted to be sure they had gotten the tumor and not the hemotoma. However we felt this was God answering our prayers! Also on Friday, Kurt began walking around without his walker and said he was feeling better. He has seemed to continue feeling better every day for the most part so we feel like we are going in the right direction. So since we had to have a 2nd biopsy we decided to go ahead and just get a 2nd opinion all together we go to church with the CEO of Sara Canon cancer research here in Nashville so Brenda called to talk with her about possibly coming there for the 2nd biopsy Deanna was sitting there talking to a surgeon about Kurt. We felt that was God opening that door and a clear answer that is where we needed to go for our 2ND biopsy. So Monday they went and had a consultation with the Dr. and then Tuesday was the 2ND biopsy we got the call on Thursday that they still had found NO CANCER CELLS. they mentioned wanting to do another biopsy but actually doing an incision and taking part of the tumor. But, they said the would call on Friday they were going to look through the biopsy one more time and make sure that they were not missing anything. So Friday we got the call still NO CANCER CELLS. and that they didn't feel the need to do the 3rd biopsy because the pathologist said he had more than enough tissue, he said he didn't know what this guy has but whatever it is not cancer! OUR GOD IS HEALER AWESOME IN POWER!
So we are waiting on what the next step is the Dr. should be calling tom. to let us know the next step. So we are still waiting with little answers. We all truly believe that he DID have Cancer and God has/is healing him. He is still having some pain, fatigue and loss of appetite, which we hate to see. However, we are trusting and believing that God is healing him.
The song that i believe God is speaking to me from is the Song our God every time i turn on my radio or Pandora that song is on, "our God is healer awesome in power"--that line really jumps out at me every time. i adore it! When the shepherds prayed over us they read James 5:15 also Matthew 21:21-22 have both been very encouraging verses to me during this time. I have found my Faith being strengthened during this, you realize quickly that you really have very little control but how cool is that you have the ability to talk to someone that does and that hears us!?!?! and answers us!!! all we have to do is believe! Wow!
